PARK CITY OLYMPICS
Be part of our Olympic legacy. The 2002 Winter Olympics, officially the XIX Olympic Winter Games known as Salt Lake 2002, were a winter multi-sport event that was celebrated in February 2002 in and around Salt Lake City, Utah, United States.
There were 78 Events in total, and we hosted 9 events in Park City!
DEER VALLEY – Alpine skiing (slalom), freestyle skiing
PARK CITY MOUNTAIN RESORT – Alpine skiing (giant slalom), snowboarding
UTAH OLYMPIC PARK – Bobsleigh, luge, skeleton, Nordic combined (ski jumping portion), ski jumping
Come to Park City and relive the magic!
A total 78 National Olympic Committees sent athletes to the Salt Lake City games. Cameroon, Hong Kong (China), Nepal, Tajikistan, and Thailand participated in their first Winter Olympic Games ever.
The mission of Olympic Spirit is “to build a peaceful and better world which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play. Olympic Spirit seeks to instill and develop the values and ideals of Olympism in those who visit and to promote tolerance and understanding in these increasingly troubled times in which we live, to make our world a more peaceful place.”
You and your friends, family and colleagues will compete for medals in Olympic Bobsled at the Utah Olympic Park, The Slalom at Deer Valley, and Curling at the Ice Arena and Sports Complex.
OLYMPIC BOBSLED
Ride with an Olympic Bobsledder down the 2002 Olympic Track!
Park City’s track also happens to be one of the fastest runs in the world.
In less than a mile, bobsledders are sent through 15 gut-wrenching turns and drop 390 feet, or 40 stories. By turn number six the sled has already reached 80 mph and riders feel forces five times the pull of gravity.
While other tracks do allow tourists to ride down, Park City is the only track that lets tourists ride the full length of the track, getting an almost-identical experience to the Olympians. The only difference: we started inside the sled and got a push. The professional athletes get a running start.
SLALOM DEER VALLEY
Advanced and expert skiers can challenge themselves on our 2002 Olympic Winter Games runs, Champion (site of freestyle moguls), Know You Don’t (site of alpine slalom), and White Owl (site of freestyle aerials).
CURLING
Test your skills at one of the most underrated Olympic sports.
A unique mix of shuffleboard and bowling on ice, with the strategy of chess thrown in for good measure, curling features two four-person teams who alternate sliding a large stone across the ice toward a bull’s-eye 126 feet away. Some believe curling is a relatively new sport.
